Essential Care for a Healthy Smile

At Roundshill Dental , we believe that good oral hygiene is the foundation of a healthy smile. Our skilled dental hygienists play a key role in ensuring that you maintain optimal oral health, preventing future dental issues, and enhancing the longevity of your smile. Dental hygienists are dedicated to providing preventive care and education, focusing on the health of your teeth, gums, and mouth. They are experts in cleaning, diagnosing early signs of gum disease, and helping you adopt habits that support lifelong dental wellness.

Professional Teeth Cleanings

  • Plaque and Tartar Removal: Our hygienists use specialised tools to remove plaque and tartar from areas that regular brushing can’t reach.
  • Polishing: After cleaning, we polish your teeth, leaving them smooth and shiny.
  • Fluoride Treatment: A fluoride treatment may be applied to help strengthen tooth enamel and prevent decay.

Gum Disease Prevention and Treatment

  • Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning): For patients with gum disease, deep cleaning removes plaque and tartar from beneath the gumline to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
  • Gum Health Education: We educate you on the importance of gum care and how to maintain healthy gums with proper brushing, flossing, and regular check-ups.

Oral Cancer Screenings

  • Early Detection for a Healthier Future
Oral cancer can be life-threatening, but early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes. Our dental hygienists perform oral cancer screenings during routine check-ups, looking for signs of abnormalities, sores, or other symptoms that may require further evaluation.

X-Rays and Imaging

  • Accurate Diagnosis with Advanced Technology
Our dental hygienists take digital X-rays and other imaging to detect issues such as cavities, bone loss, or infections that may not be visible during a routine exam. These images help our dentists develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Preventive Advice and Education

  • Brushing and Flossing Techniques: Learn the most effective techniques to remove plaque and maintain healthy teeth and gums.
  • Diet and Oral Health: Understanding how your diet affects your dental health and what foods to avoid.
  • The Importance of Regular Checkups: We stress the importance of regular dental visits to catch potential issues early and maintain optimal oral health.

Custom Mouthguards and Sports Protection

  • Protect Your Teeth During Physical Activities
If you engage in sports or other physical activities, our hygienists can fit you for a custom mouthguard to protect your teeth from injury. We create comfortable, well-fitted mouthguards that can help prevent dental trauma during high-risk activities.

What Is Polishing in Dentistry?

Polishing is the final step of a dental cleaning (often after scaling), and its main purpose is to make your teeth smooth, shiny, and clean-looking.

What Does Polishing Do?
Removes surface stains caused by:

  • Tea, coffee, red wine
  • Smoking or tobacco
  • Certain foods or medications
  • Smooths the tooth surface, making it harder for plaque and tartar to stick.
  • Leaves teeth feeling cleaner and looking brighter.

How Is It Done?

  • Rubber cup and polishing paste: A soft spinning cup is used with a mildly abrasive paste (like gritty toothpaste).
  • Air polishing (optional in some clinics): Uses a fine powder, water, and compressed air — great for stain removal and more comfortable for some people.

Notes:

  • Polishing does not whiten teeth like a whitening treatment — it just removes surface stains.
  • It’s safe when done professionally (usually once every 6 months).
  • Not always needed at every appointment — your dentist/hygienist will assess.
